With Good Intent

In between the fence and the garden

There were always fruit bearing trees

Planted with good intent

For the fruits to be reaped by us and our neighbors

In good times or bad times

Or just because times

For life should be lived with intent

And in the moment you love

Love with good intent

Love Is or Is Not

To the untrained eye

Water is water

But a good gardener knows it is not

For flowers will thrive under an abundance of rainwater

But may die under an abundance of tap water

To the unprepared heart

Love is love

But in reality it may not be

For love will uplift you

While it may bring out the rift in you

Causing your soul to drift

As if on a journey seeking solace

Where the heart knows it will not be found

Seeking a sanctuary

Where no rest can be found

For it was on a rainy day that I looked

In her eyes

And in a moment wondered if what I felt was love

Or if it was not

From That Distance

I am not sure how far you could run

To escape

Or how you would hide

To evade

The legacy of a love

That is yours to have and to own

And you would waste time trying

For when love finds you

Though distance may separate you

The legacy of true love will liberate you

Walking in the Garden

My sister would often go for a walk in the garden

To see what was new, as she would say

There would always be new blossoms, new blooms

And new flowers that she didn’t see on her last walk

She would also take the time to do a little weeding, as she would say

Rooting up the odd weed here and there

There would be weeds in the rose garden

Or wrapping themselves around the hibiscus

Sometimes there would be just enough time

To pick the dead leaves off one plant

For life is like that

There is only sometimes enough time to do one thing well

For life is like a garden

And we must take the time to walk around the garden

Admiring the good and weeding out what we perceive as bad

And sometimes we have only just a moment to

Decide what is good for our garden and what is not

And sometimes you have but one moment to decide

What is a weed and what is not

Gardening with Benefits

Bending and stretching

Waking up early

Eating right and exercising

Eating fresh foods

Meeting like minded people

Caring and devoting your time and energy

To something you love

Staying fit and healthy

Because you know you are depended upon

These are just a few of the benefits of gardening

For a beauty begets beauty

And a beautiful mind

Is often rewarded

In mysterious ways

For in caring for a garden

You will indirectly be caring for yourself

Trying

 You will never know

Unless you try

And sometimes you will try many times

Or many things

Until you find your true calling

But in the meanwhile

Never let failure discourage you

On the contrary it should encourage you

To try harder

For in the knowledge of failure

You will realize your dream of success

Rainy Moments

It takes a lot of dedication

To garden when you are surrounded by frustration

And anger is your sole motivation

But think of the moment before

When you were happy and carefree

Hand in hand walking merrily

Then think of the moments yet to come

Clouded by your anger

Unable to bring your ideas to fruition

Then you will realize

No matter how others criticize

Your focus should always be on positive things

Which of a truth are more enduring and long lasting

Reflecting on My Reflections

In the middle of the garden

Centered between the mango and the apple trees

To the right of the rose garden

A few paces away from the yellow hibiscus

Was a white birdbath

Recently painted for the season

It was there that I saw the first reflection of my soul

Far above me were drifting clouds

And under my feet

A pillow like clump of Kentucky blue grass

And when I looked in the still water

In the birth bath

I could see my smiling cheeks and life stained brown eyes

I also could see my past

My present

And the visions that lay ahead

Waiting on me

As if reminding me that

My journey was yet to come

And years would pass before I saw another reflection of my soul

It was while standing on an island surrounded by many lakes

When as if drawn

I venture out in a pier behind this

Simple but homely home

And looking down in the glasslike lake

I saw a deeper reflection of my soul

And I knew then

That though visions were unfolding

There were more yet to come

For alas life’s like that

For when you think you are at the summit of your life

It is then that you are equipped

To pursue even more dreams

And visions will continue to unfold

And you know you will conquer them

One reflection at a time

Orchid Love

It was not for want of trying
That the beautiful orchids kept dying
The best soil
The best water
The best location
The best elevation
Even the best sunshine was not enough
It was not for want of trying
But the orchids just kept dying
For sometimes it’s not because
You don’t know how to love
It’s just that you need a flower
That harmonizes with your love
